AFL Training - About Me
I started two of the first toy libraries in long stay hospitals in 1972 and ran them for nine years before joining the Toy Libraries Association (now the National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries) with responsibility for special needs, training and publications. In 1985 I was appointed by Save the Children to develop and manage a mobile training resource on play and leisure for people with learning disabilities. In 1991 I became manager of PLANET, the national information resource on play and leisure for disabled people, which was a partnership project between Save the Children and Mencap. From 1996 to March 2005 I was Director of Action for Leisure, a national charity which promoted play and leisure for disabled people of all ages.
I am a qualified trainer (Certificate in Training, Goldsmiths University of London, 1999), offering training on a range of issues around play and leisure for disabled children, young people and adults.
I am the author of , published by Butterworth Heinemann in 1994 (out of print), co-author with Mary Dickins of , published by National Early Years Network in 1998 (2nd edition published by National Children's Bureau, 2003), and the author of various publications for PLANET and Action for Leisure.
