AFL Training - Training
Training & Outreach
Training is part of a larger outreach service. Through the outreach service AFL Training can offer:
- A display of play and leisure equipment at seminars and conferences.
- Training days and workshops on issues relating to play and leisure opportunities for disabled people (see below for more details).
- A speaker for conferences and seminars.
Aims and Philosophy of the Training Service
All the training provided by AFL Training is of a high standard and aims to meet the specific needs of the group involved.
The Trainer has an adult education teaching qualification and experience of working with people in a learning environment. She also has a breadth of experience of working with disabled adults and children in play settings, respite care units, residential units and day centres. This hands-on experience can be seen through the practical and realistic approach to the training.
In the training session we aim to:
- Explore some of the issues that workers and parents/carers face when providing play and leisure activities.
- Address the concerns people have about providing play and leisure opportunities for disabled people.
- Give information and ideas about appropriate play and leisure.
- Discuss and play with, play and leisure equipment.
- Promote choice for disabled adults, children and their carers.

We will:
- Offer an interactive / participatory approach to the training session.
- Focus on the setting and issues facing the participants.
- Support the training with information handouts or a handbook.
- Follow up enquiries and requests for information and ideas.
AFL Training is committed to quality in all the services offered. We value constructive feedback and evaluate our training service both formally and informally.
Details about Training Courses
Where do the sessions happen?
Training can be held at your place of work or where your group meets, in a community building or school. The venue needs to be accessible, on the ground floor or with lift access. The resources used for the training are large and heavy. We travel to any part of the country to make our information and ideas accessible to a wide audience.
Participants
In order to make the session useful we suggest a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 20. (We appreciate that on some occasions this is not possible or appropriate.)
The participants do not need to be from the same place of work or group, and training often thrives when people have diverse backgrounds and knowledge.
Training Resources
Each participant will receive a handbook that gives information about the issues discussed in the training. The handbook also contains additional information relating to play and leisure for disabled adults/children.
As part of the training service AFL Training will take any specific enquiries about aspects of play/leisure, a particular disability or a piece of equipment. We will answer the enquiries and forward the information to you after the training.
Costs
The fees for the training sessions are negotiable for parent groups, small voluntary organisations and subscribers. We accept that many groups will not have a budget to cover training, particularly parent support groups and small voluntary organisations. In some of these cases we are able to come to special arrangements. Please do ask.
| Course | Fee |
|---|---|
| Full Day | £475.00 |
| Half Day | £275.00 |
| 2 Hour Workshop | £150.00 |
All fees plus expenses.
